The overlap script is intended for use when a smaller timber cantilevers over a supporting timber-- a purlin over a gable end rafter for example where the purlin extends out to support the roof overhang. Pergolas are another common application. The script cuts a lap joint and houses the smaller timber into each side of the supporting beam, the depth of each cut is available in the OPM.
In this screenshot a green timber is cantelevered over a maroon support beam. The script cuts the lap and housings, and makes their dimensions available in the OPM. Currently, the script displays as the default TSL marble, future versions will add graphics and grips specific to this tool.
Mods
This simple script has only insertion defaults recommended as user mods.
By default the script cuts a 2" deep lap, and 1/2" deep housings. Alter these numbers to your most commonly used values.
